Emergency Relief for Northern Ontario First Nations Wildfires

Emergency Relief for Northern Ontario First Nations Wildfires

Right now, First Nation communities across northwestern Ontario are facing a wildfire crisis. Nearly 200 active wildfires are burning across the region, and a total of 185 active wildland fires are burning across the northwest and northeast fire regions of the province. Communities including Namaygoosisagagun (Collins) First Nation, Whitesand First Nation, Gull Bay First Nation, Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation, Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation (Lac La Croix), Cat Lake First Nation, McDowell Lake First Nation, and Mishkeegogamang First Nation have all been placed under evacuation orders. The goal of this fundraiser is to directly support these communities and provide evacuees with safe housing, food, and assistance during this crisis.

As the Indigenous Health Movement, a student-run non-profit organization out of McMaster University focused on Indigenous Health advocacy, we are hoping to support these Indigenous communities that are so heavily affected by these emergencies.
